How to use basal thermometer

First off, before going forward to discuss this topic and teach you using basal thermometer correctly, i need to mention that for any of this to work, you’ll need to have really accurate basal thermometer. Try something high quality and something that comes with a lot of cool features, like option to save daily data. It is very useful to track ovulation and succeed at doing so. Most recent digital basal thermometers usually work the best, because they notify you when they’re done measuring your temperature, and some of them can even store data, in case you want to look it up later. All these features are useful because even though normally writing down your temperature every day is easy, you aren’t going to be in normal conditions. You will have to wake up every morning to measure your BBT (basal body temperature) and when you’ve just woken up, it’s hard to take care of everything.

So you’ll need to set an alarm, if you already haven’t, and make sure that you repeat the measuring every single day. If you miss some days, or don’t do it according to guidelines and do it some time else other than morning or late night, results are not going to be accurate, so the whole process will be wasted. It’s easier to just make it your habit by doing it every consecutive day for a week or two. 

As mentioned above, you can’t just measure your BBT anytime you want, there are specific guidelines that need to be followed. Don’t be lazy or dismissive about following these just because they’re a little hard. Basal thermometers are really quick and take really little time to measure your temperature compared to regular thermometers. It’s almost impossible to correctly detect ovulation unless you follow at least most of these main guidelines.

  • As soon as you open your eyes go ahead and measure your basal temperature. The reasons for this are explained above.
  • Mark the time, or set up an alarm on the same time everyday. Make sure to check the temperature at the same o’clock every day.
  • Make sure to get good sleep before measuring your temperature. At least 6 hours of it.
  • Keep your basal thermometer close, so it’s easy to get straight from your bed.

  • Same applies for the way you measure your temperature. Whether it is from your mouth or not, try to not change how you do it.
  • Try to capture the time and date you perform the measurement. And of course, the end result.
  • Check out the features your basal thermometer has. Some of them store your data for a long time and even have little control panel to check it, while others are more simpler and you have to write your temperature down old fashioned way.
